Battle of the Paddle

Good Times in Oahu with the Hinano, Kialoa, and Paddle Surf Hawaii team. Blane Chambers designed some awesome boards for riders Aaron Napoleon and Guy Pere. Aaron ended up coming 3rd overall in the elite race and also winning the 14 ft. division in the downwind run.
Great weekend with good friends!

Battle of the Paddle

Battle of the Paddle

Battle of the Paddle will be held next week in Waikiki. I will be there at the event. I am excited, although not at my "top athletic shape yet" I am excited to take myself one step closer to being back competing. Check out the link above to see more information about the race.

Get up, Stand up!

Yesterday was a beautiful day to be out on the water, cruising at the beach with family and friends, and best of all the combo of exercise and entertainment is priceless! I woke up feeling sore of course because I surfed all day, but it felt so good.
I used my 9'0 yesterday so I could get a hard workout in the small surf. So for you ladies who really want to exercise with a stand up board, the smaller the board the harder it is to balance. This way you get a much harder core workout and your leg muscles have to workout harder to maintain balance.

Beach days are the best when your family and friends are around, plan on making a healthy lunch and making a day out of it! ALOHA TIARE

Back in the Wa'a

This year I am coaching the Novice A women for the 2nd year. Fortunately last year the women were undefeated. So this year I am determined once again to coach them to victory. The pressure is up with our club's 50th anniversary. I am also thrilled to be back in a wa'a paddling since Hinatea was born. This year I will be paddling and not steering as much. So hopefully I will earn a seat as a stroker.
If you live on Maui and would like to paddle come join Hawaiian Canoe Club for our 50th anniversary. We have lots of events lined up for the season. aloha and IMUA!

Getting back on the train.....

Ok so as most of you know, my daughter Hinatea was born in January. Since then it has been a mission for me to get back in to shape. I have always been a die hard workout freak prior to pregnancy. Well, now is the time! I have been working out and surfing here and there but with a few events coming at the end of May, I am on a mission to have my strength and endurance in full throttle. For those of you who live on Maui, I have been going to this killer Cross Spin class at the upcountry fitness center in Haiku. It's a combo of spinning and hard core floor exercises utilizing dumbbells, swiss balls, weighted balls, and yoga mats. The instructor primarily focuses on building core strength. It's great! I will post a picture next week of the class working out. Hope you all are having a great week and enjoy the weekend!
